Thames Barges Sail Into The 21st Century

Last weekend we attended a highly successful Thames Sailing Barge Parade in London. Ten barges travelled through a raised Tower Bridge into the Upper Pool before returning to West India Dock.

Aboard Reminder we carried a group of supporters who have been instrumental to our success over the years and towards the building of Blue Mermaid. We are most grateful to them and a great day was had by all.

On Sunday the barges were open to the public. Additionally an exhibition contained a wealth of information on their history and the historical importance of the Thames barge fleet to the very survival of London.

Pictured are barges at the event moored opposite Canary Wharf, briefly connecting the late 19th and 20th centuries together.
